WHAT IS BLEED?

A little extra for a clean edge.

Bleed is the extra background colour or image that extends beyond the finished edge of your ad. It is cut off when the directory is trimmed.

That extra 5 mm allows for small variations in cutting, helping avoid an unwanted white sliver around the edge of a full-page ad.

  1. Start at the finished size. Set your full-page document to 148 mm wide × 210 mm high.
  2. Extend the background. Carry any edge-to-edge colour or image 5 mm beyond every edge. Don’t add a white border or stretch the whole ad to make the bleed.
  3. Keep important content inside. Leave breathing room between the trim line and text, logos, contact details and faces.
  4. Export a PDF with bleed. The finished page stays 148 × 210 mm; the artwork including bleed extends to 158 × 220 mm. Don’t include the guide’s dashed lines, shading or labels.

Help your ad make a connection.

Make the offer worthwhile

A genuine, generous offer gives residents another reason to call. Make its conditions clear and easy to read.

Put a face to your business

A friendly, professional owner photo can help residents see who they’ll be dealing with. The bottom-right position in the example is a suggestion.
